To teach the next generation

The library is filled with so many delightful things to entice our imgaination! We have a routine of taking the girls to the library every week on daddy's day off and the girls absolutely love it.
Normally at the library children are introduced to information about the state they live in and looking at picture books of their favorite animals. My girls have found the Lady Bug magazines, Ranger Rick and Zoobooks. They've even enjoyed American Girl magazine and Ciarra has finally started checking out the Laura Ingalls Wilder books.
In fact the library is where we first got introduced to Little House on the Prairie movies. Although these were around when I was a kid I didn't enjoy them near as much as I have been. Now we have watched every episode of every season.
Husband and I have used our library resources to introduce the girls to some of the things we enjoyed as kids. Things such as, "Fruity Pebbles" (The Flinstones) and "Cat and Mouse" (Tom and Jerry).
But tonight was the height of our generation gap when Ciarra told me she didn't want to watch "Leave it to Beaver" because it didn't look like it had color and so she was sure she wouldn't like it. But mom won out, sheerly by force, when I said "no, it doesn't have color but we're going to watch it anyway and if you don't like it you can go read another one of your books", and while we were watching it Grace asked, "who's that laughing?" "Laughing?" How was I to explain canned laughter? So my explanation, those are the people they got to laugh so you would laugh at those parts because they thought those were funny parts. What an ultra sophisticated answer for my little 4 year old who said, "oh, why would they do that? Why don't they just let us laugh if we think it's funny?" What wisdom!
She must be learning to express her thoughts freely by spending so much time in the books!
