Is there a mother who hasn't been there?

If you're the parent of small children you know that the bathroom seems to be the one place of solitude, quiet, peace, and tranquility. Sad to say but the bathroom tends to be the place I run to for quiet and regrouping in the midst of a crazy day or chaotic morning really.
So when I'm in the shower spa and I've made sure all the kids have eaten or are eating and the elders have started on their schoolwork, it's a little disconcerting to have that aforementioned peace and tranquility disturbed.
It all started with my 4 year old running in to use the bathroom. Never mind that there are 2 others in the house. The one mommy's in will do just fine. Thankyouverymuch.
Then the baby needed to tell me that she was done eating and it was now time to brush her teeth. She brought me the paste and her toothbrush and she was set. However just a few minutes later she was frantically crying out because her feet were dangling and she couldn't reach her step. Of course she's past the point of calm explanation and she's done listening so I have to wait for the panic to pass before she'll listen. It's amazing that at 2 something like not being able to reach your step seems life threatening.
The bathroom finally lost its panaceaic (is that a word?) effect when the 2 oldest came running in freaking out over who knows what and while trying to decipher what was going on I could hear the baby over the noise screaming in the background for her daddy. I wish I could say that I stuck my soaking wet and sudsy filled head out of the curtain and calmly asked my girls to leave the bathroom until I was done meditating because really, I would like to be able to report that I practice what I preach. Unfortunately, I say, with my head hanging, that I told them all to get out and let me enjoy washing the soap out of my now burning and red eyes in peace; to which they all lowered their heads and herded themselves out. That was good for at least another 5 minutes.
Welcome back to reality mom.

You are a terrific writer and have a real talent...I find your blog very entertaining and yet can relate so well. It is fabulous that you do not sugar coat motherhood, that in itself will get you through it!
